Mission Statement
NH Steward is a grassroots organization dedicated to holding politicians from both parties accountable to the taxpayers. NH Steward was formed by Merrimack, NH resident Fred Tausch. Over 2,500 concerned citizens have endorsed NH Steward'S call for more fiscal responsibility in Washington.
Through its website www.NHSteward.org, Fred and NH Steward provide a public information resource center for working families, policy makers and the media. NH Steward seeks to hold the politicians and all government spending programs accountable to three benchmarks. First, we insist on absolute transparency. Second, taxpayer money should be spent wisely, with no waste and no pork. Third, all government spending decisions should be geared toward promoting economic growth.
To do this, NH Steward conducts economic impact and public opinion studies on federal spending programs such as President Barack Obama's stimulus bill, the bank and auto bailouts, the federal foreclosure plan and the federal budget. To augment these studies' quantitative data NH Steward commissions freelance reporters to take a qualitative look at the economy to examine the impact of federal policy decisions on everyday working families.
Fred originally formed NH Steward in 2009 to raise awareness of the problems with President Obama's stimulus package. Over 2,500 people signed NH Steward's petition opposing the stimulus plan. Now that the stimulus is law, Fred and NH Steward continue to encourage its members and the citizenry at large to engage their elected officials through grassroots and online activism tools such as the NH Steward blog and social networking utilities to create a more efficient and accountable federal government.
